Sleeping

baby-sleepA crib or basinet should have a firm mattress. Lap pads can save a total change of bedding. The current recommendation is that children be placed on their backs or sides when sleeping. This position is considered safest.

Newborns sleep between 12 and 20 hours per day. The sleep pattern for each child varies. Day/night patterns do not become firmly established until between six and nine months of age.
